India is home to many UNESCO World Heritage Sites as it has a culture and history that spans thousands of years. One of the most famous ancient historic sites and tourist destinations among them in India are the Ajanta Caves. These caves are rock-cut Buddhist Cave Monuments in the Aurangabad District in Maharashtra known for displaying historic Indian sculptures, architecture, and ancient Indian art. Here is nearest railway station ujbedullah .so any one can reach it world heritage site .nearest villages faridapur . There are 30 caves in which some are chaitya and vihar caves caves no 9 and 10 are oldest one . Caves no 9,10 ,19 and 26 are chitya caves rests are vihar caves. There are world famous painting survive in caves . One can see beauty of harsrigar trees over the caves . The subject matter of ajanta painting is Buddhist. There are famous jataka stories which on the past life of gutama budhha . In caves no 16 ,17 are full of jataka stories based painting .Ajanta caves discovered in 1819 by British army officers then it came to light .one articles was written on caves and published royal Asiatic society London. afterthat John Griffics principal of j j school of art got copy of painting ,sketches, painted to the same .in 1908 one curator appointed for preserving painting and caves by government . World famous artist Amrita shergill says,, a fresco from ajanta is worth more than the whole renaissance,,
Pitfalls of too many tourists
without proper regulations of footfalls , a daily average of 1000 tourists visit the caves the excess humidity and hight CO2 from human breath is major reason for the deterioration of the murals in the caves complex.
But now days ajanta caves in peril due to climatics , seepages electricity led bulb excess use in result most of the painting turn in brownies colour , people are coming to visit ajanta caves without proper guide and they comes walk in and walk out not concerned about how to prevent it . So this is so serious issue . Necessary action should be taken for preserving caves painting.
